11 Players from One Texas High School Football Team Test Positive for COVID-19

Highland Park ISD is reported to have learned that eleven players from their football team tested positive for COVID-19.  Their scrimmages vs Trinity have been canceled.  They have yet to cancel their season opener vs Austin Westlake.

Most importantly, as we’ve asked around, we have heard no reports of any players having any major complications from the virus nor being hospitalized.

It is important to note that Highland Park has indicated that the positive tests were over a span of several weeks. It has not been reported yet how many if any, players currently have the Corona Virus.   We will keep you up to date on this story.  Hopefully, all players have fully recovered and the game against Austin Westlake can be played next week.

It is likely that, as 5 and 6 A schools near their season openers next week, we will hear more news of schools with players testing positive. This happened leading up to the kickoff of 1-4A games, and each week there has been a handful of games that have been canceled.  Through three weeks of games for 1-4 A teams, we have seen that a few games do get canceled each week, but that so far most teams are still on track to play their full schedule.
