New Mexico’s 2018 class is, at last, no longer a one-man show after Humble Kingwood offensive guard Chris Elam announced his commitment on Monday, becoming the Lobos second pledge this cycle.

A three-star prospect from the Houston-area, Elam committed to New Mexico over offers from Memphis, Southeastern Louisiana, Georgia State and Arkansas State. The Lobos offered only two months ago on May 11.
Along with now joining JUCO offensive tackle Chris Estrella as the current 2018 New Mexico pledges, Elam’s commitment continues an interesting streak — the Lobos have landed at least one Texas native every cycle since recruiting services began tracking prospects in 1999.
A 6’5, 320-pound prospect, Elam is ranked as the nation’s No. 1,719 player, No. 82 offensive guard and the No. 217 player in Texas, per 247Sports Composite. New Mexico’s 2018 class now ranks No. 109 nationally and No. 7 in the Mountain West Conference.
