7-on-7 teammates JD Coffey III and Ishmael Ibraheem commit to Texas

On Monday, Kennedale four-star safety JD Coffey III and Dallas Kimball four-star cornerback Ishmael Ibraheem both released videos via twitter announcing their shared commitment to the Texas Longhorns program. Their nearly identical videos were released at noon featuring separate workouts and text messages before they come together announcing their commitment alongside one another:

Coffey joins the program as the 12th pledge for the Longhorns 2021 recruiting class. According to a 247Sports composite, the 6-foot-5 prospect is the No. 27th safety of the 2021 class in the nation and the No. 46th in the state.

As a freshman, Coffey recorded 71 tackles, 11 tackles for a loss, six interceptions, and four pass breakups. Last season as a junior he made just as much of an impact with 71 tackles, six tackles for a loss, two sacks, two interceptions, and one pick-six.

As a longtime Texas fan, it was partially expected to see Coffey commit to the Longhorns, but LSU, Baylor, Washington, Oregon, and Michigan were among Texas as the finalists for the four-star defensive back. “Texas is my home school and everything about Texas is great,” Coffey said in an interview. “I definitely struggled with this. There were a lot of things I had to think about and a lot of circumstances I had to consider, so it was not easy at all. Texas, they just showed love constantly. Some schools hit you up now and then, they show love now and then, but Texas was consistent.”

Coffey’s friend and 7-on-7 teammate, Ibraheem, will also be joining Tom Herman’s program. With 34 offers to his name, the 6-foot-1 cornerback chose Texas over programs like LSU, Alabama, Oklahoma, Oregon, Georgia, and Auburn.

According to a 247Sports composite, Ibraheem is ranked as the No. 7 safety in the 2021 class and No. 38 in the state. As a junior, Ibraheem earned District 6-4A Division 1 Defensive MVP honors after totaling 35 tackles and four pass breakups.

Should the pair sign in the winter, they will make an incredible, physical addition to the Longhorns squad.
