75 Days Remaining Until The Longhorns Kickoff The 2018 Season, What Should UT Football Fans Expect

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

UT fans just might be some of the best fans in college football, but also some of the toughest to play, or coach for.  It goes without saying that the expectations for this season are high—They always are. With UT fans it always seems to be National Champions, or at least in the hunt or the season has been a let down. Obviously we would all like to see UT turn things around and hit the ten win mark in head coach Tom Herman’s second year.  However, if you’ve ever talked to a real Longhorn fan they’re quick to take you back to UT’s National Championship glory days with Vince Young at the helm, and tell you why they’re in the hunt this year!

With just 75 days remaining until kickoff of the 2018 college football season we’ll give our prediction for the 2018 Longhorn’s.

Erich Schlegel-USA TODAY Sports

Tom Herman is a smart coach that knows how to turn a program around, as evidenced by his time with the University of Houston.  Our prediction is coach Herman puts all of the outside noise to rest and names his starting QB early into training camp. For what it’s worth, we believe that QB should be Sam Ehlinger. Ehlinger played well toward the latter part of the season, and both Ehlinger and Buechele showed their ups and downs during the spring game. We predict Ehlinger gets the nod early to both squash the controversy and outside noise, and get his offense into a rhythm.

The real key to the Longhorns success this year is in our opinion is more on the offensive line than on the QB. There is no two ways about it, for the Longhorns to get to an eight or ten win season all of the pressure is on the big men up front. Last year the Longhorns were so thin up front it’s surprising they finished the way they did.  Anyone, who knows football knows that you have to build from the line back, not the other way around.

With the loss of Conner Williams (2nd Round Pick/Cowboys) expect Rice transfer Calvin Anderson to solidify the left tackle position.  The remaining four spots are still up for grabs.   With only two veterans on the interior with Patrick Vahe (31 career starts) and Zach Shackelford (17 starts), both men battled injuries and inconsistent play last year.  The key to a great season is really riding on these two stepping up their play, and leading a young offensive line by example. We also expect Derek Kerstetter  to make big improvements this year after starting 10 games as a true freshman. Both Elijah Rodriguez and Denzel Okafor need to continue to prove themselves this year. If this group of men pull it together and play as a unit, Texas fans will see the turnaround they’ve been waiting for.

We’re optimistically picking 10 W’s for the Longhorns in 2018.
