A sensitive and developing situation is unfolding at TLCA San Angelo, involving a lawsuit, leadership turnover, and serious allegations tied to a recent athletic period incident.
The school announced that its Athletic Director and Head Football Coach are no longer with the organization as of March 13, 2026. Three additional coaches remain in non-coaching roles, while a search for new leadership is underway as the program works to stabilize.
The situation is tied to a lawsuit filed by multiple families alleging that a disciplinary workout crossed the line into abuse. According to court filings, dozens of student-athletes were required to perform hundreds of pushups over an extended period without rest or water, with the drills continuing across multiple days.
The lawsuit states that around 80 students were involved, with approximately 20 later hospitalized. Several were reportedly diagnosed with rhabdomyolysis, a serious condition caused by muscle breakdown that can lead to kidney and organ damage.
The filings also raise broader concerns about supervision, decision-making, and how the situation was handled afterward. Allegations include failures in oversight and questions about whether appropriate action was taken once players began showing signs of distress.
At the same time, it’s important to note that these are allegations outlined in a civil lawsuit, and no final legal conclusions have been reached. The school has acknowledged the lawsuit but has not commented on specific claims due to ongoing litigation.
As the investigation continues, the focus remains on student safety, accountability, and ensuring stability for the student-athletes moving forward.
