Granbury Pirates 2026 Season Preview
Granbury Pirates
Head Coach: Bobby Allison (3rd season; 3-17 record)
Last Season: 2-8; 1-7 in district
Granbury Key Players and Storylines
Granbury makes the jump to 6A football for the first time in school history this fall. However, they won’t be entirely unfamiliar with the rigors of going against the best in Texas. They shared a district with Aledo, who is also moving up, and 5A powerhouse Denton Ryan in the previous alignment.
Head coach Bobby Allison is hoping things will begin to take off in his third season at the helm after just three wins in his first two seasons. The Pirates have a core of juniors they’ll lean on offensively to lead the way. 6’5″, 300-pound tackle Brooks Meyer, Granbury’s lone returning all-district honoree, is exactly the type of player you can build a line around.
In the backfield, the Pirates have a pair of shifty backs in Hunter Rodgers (497 rushing yards) and Kobe Barrington (187 rushing yards), while Caleb Johnson (371 receiving yards and three touchdowns) will be in contention for the starting quarterback role after impressing as a receiver last year. If he does get the nod, he’ll have a safety blanket in 6’5″, 215-pound tight end Brayden Pugh, who is beginning to get Division I looks.

Defensively, nine of Granbury’s ten leading tacklers graduated. The secondary is where the experience is at with cornerbacks Zay Flores (23 tackles) and Shane Neal (16 tackles) and fellow junior safety Crew Sherrill (14 tackles, two INTs).
No matter what this year brings, Granbury will be able to take positives knowing that most of their key players will be back in 2027 as well. They’ll expect their group of juniors to establish a foundation for Granbury Pirate football at the 6A level.
