3A Team of the Week: Tatum Eagles

Out in East Texas last week, the Thursday night lights were shining bright as Tatum welcomed in Troup, the No. 1 team in 3A Division II.

Troup entered the game as heavy favorites. Dave Campbell’s Texas Football had Tatum listed as 21-point underdogs.

But in a game where both teams were missing some key players, Tatum couldn’t have burst out of the gates any quicker.

Alijah Williams opened the scoring with a 53-yard touchdown run, Tydric Moore had two rushing touchdowns, Dede Brooks broke free for a 54-yard touchdown run, and Dane Moore found Logen Tovar for a touchdown pass as Tatum built a 33-7 halftime lead.

The Eagles did give up a pair of second half touchdowns, but their hot start proved to be insurmountable as they secured the 33-21 victory and handed Troup its first loss of the year.

With the win, Tatum improves to 4-1 on the season. The Eagles will now have a bye week before opening district play on the road against Atlanta on Oct. 9.
