5A Team of the Week: Georgetown Eagles

Georgetown has had quite the couple weeks. Two weeks ago, the Eagles knocked off Shoemaker on a walk-off field goal.

Last week, Weiss stopped them on fourth down in the red zone to hold on for the 28-21 win.

This week against A&M Consolidated, despite Georgetown being 17-point underdogs according to Dave Campbell’s Texas Football, it was no different.

A&M Consolidated took the 38-34 lead with just over four minutes to go, giving Georgetown one last chance.

This time, the Eagles found their way to the end zone. Kaleb McDougie hit Weston Hepp for the go-ahead score with just 27 seconds left to secure a huge 41-38 win.

“Man, we were fired up.  Our boys have been playing really good the last four weeks,” Georgetown head coach Chuck Griffin said. ” It was great to see our team come through again late and find success.  I am so proud of these young men.  They are working extremely hard right now and found a way to win a big one against a top-ranked team.”

McDougie threw for 212 yards and two touchdowns, becoming Georgetown’s all-time passing leader with 6,123 career yards. His favorite target was Corbin Carroll with six catches for 106 yards, while Hepp had four catches for 44 yards.

In the rushing attack, Westin Steward led the way with 87 yards and a score, Zech Guyton Jr. finished with 65 yards and two scores, and Nathan Lyock pitched in with 49 yards and a score.

Defensively, defensive end Jimmerson Bullock had eight tackles, while Quinton Rock had two tackles for loss and a forced fumble.

Georgetown is now all alone in fourth place in District 12-5A Division I at 4-3. The Eagles will now have a bye week before a massive game to close out the season on Nov. 6 against a Killeen team that is currently fifth in the standings.
