Frisco Head Coach Jeff Harbert has noticed a huge shift in his team since the beginning of the year.
“Early in the year, particularly in the Reedy game, there was tension and an air of panic when things weren’t going our way,” Harbert said. “However, starting in the Anna game, I have seen our guys remain steady and calm and keep pressing ahead when adversity hits.”
On Friday, Frisco needed every bit of that maturity as the Raccoons faced unbeaten Celina.
Frisco went up 6-0, but Celina answered with a touchdown to take the 7-6 lead.
What happened next proved Harbert’s point.
Lowery Asel took the ensuing kickoff back 95 yards for a touchdown and Frisco never trailed again, earning a huge 33-20 victory over the Bobcats.
“The game was close, but you could just feel the confidence and belief our guys were playing with. We knew we’d make the plays we needed to make in order to win, and that’s exactly what we did,” Harbert said. “It’s a huge win because it gets us closer to a playoff berth and allows us to control our own destiny to obtain the two seed and a home playoff game.”
Frisco quarterback Brenden Bounds threw for 97 yards and a touchdown, while also rushing for 62 yards and another score. Running back Kam Anderson led the ground game with 74 yards and a touchdown.
In the receiving corps, Kason Cowan had a 36-yard touchdown reception. Defensively, the Raccoons held the Bobcats to just 192 yards of total offense.
Frisco now sits in second in District 4-5A Division II thanks to its tiebreaker over Celina. The Raccoons will look to protect that two seed this Thursday as they look for another win at home against Richland.
