The fourth annual Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Watch List was announced August 16th at the former Heisman winner’s hometown of Tyler, Texas. The Award is presented to the top offensive player in Division 1 football, recognizing their success on and off the field while celebrating tenacity to overcome adversity and injury to achieve goals. The nominee must be born in Texas, graduate from a Texas High School, and/or compete at a Texas-based college.
The list will be narrowed to 16 semi-finalists in November, and then cut to potentially five finalists in December. The recipient will be announced January 11, 2017. Established in 2012, the Award previously honored three players, all quarterbacks: Bryce Petty (Baylor, 2013), Trevor Boykin (TCU, 2014), and Greg Ward Jr. (Houston, 2015), whom made the list again this season. 41 players from eight different conferences and one independent were recognized; Tulsa and BYU tied with the most nominations at three apiece.
