Roadrunners nearly outrun Sun Devils behind improved offense
ASU barely eked out a victory against UTSA, despite being favored over 20 points on the spread. The Sun Devils improved to 18-2 in games played in Texas since 1955, and the Roadrunners dropped to 0-5 against non-conference FBS teams. The Alamo City offense looks much improved from the last two years of coach Larry Coker shortcomings; Junior QB Dalton Sturm was poised calling the snaps, accounting for 311 of the team’s total 322 total yards. He goes into Saturday’s game at Old Dominion riding a streak of 10 consecutive outings with a TD pass, tying former SA QB Eric Soza (2011-2012) for the program record.
Former Converse Judson High School standout Jarveon Williams is still trying to find his footing after becoming the first 1,000-yard rusher in program history last fall and succumbing to injury in week one. Under coach Frank Wilson, he’s become a sort of tailback/receiver hybrid, setting a new career high against ASU with five receptions for 81 yards last Friday.
Arkansas gores Texas teams
The talk of the Aggies is all about their aesthetically pleasing throwback jerseys they will wear in tribute of their undefeated 1956 season.

Too bad they wear the jerseys one week after playing a formidable foe in Arkansas. The hope is to obviously rep the unis without a slash in the loss column. That may not happen.
The Razorbacks have lit up Lone Star state opponents the last two weeks by an average of 420 yards on 6.7 yards per play. Arkansas went from an overlooked opponent against the Horned Frogs to the no. 17 ranked team into the country going into week four.
The Aggie’s defense looks like it has a definitive identity and have only allowed four touchdowns in three games this season. A&M hasn’t lost a game in October in three years post-Johnny Manziel.
The Texas defense is putrid
Coach Charlie Strong and defensive coordinator Vance Bedford have had a working relationship with each other for the last six years, dating back to their time in Louisville.
That might end sometime during the Longhorn’s bye week, marking the third time in the last six years that coach Strong made a midseason coordinator change. The entire defensive effort against Cal was a botched exercise in a system that is flopping for UT like Corey Feldman’s recent music performance on Today.
If you think that was bad, try watching the missed tackles, failed execution, and failed coverage that let the Bears light up the scoreboard with 50 points (nearly 56 following that dropped touchdown at the one yard line). The defense sacrificed 396 yards through the air.

The Horns are allowing an average 34.6 points per game in three games; last season, they forfeited 37 points in the same span.
The Marching Owl Band rips Baylor
Rice University’s marching band destroyed the Bears during halftime, creating formations to taunt Baylor’s mishandling of sexual assault allegations. After some backlash from offended Waco fans, Rice’s office of public affairs released this statement:
“Sexual assault is a matter of serious concern on campuses across the nation, and all of us have an obligation to address the matter with all the tools at our disposal. The MOB sought to highlight the vents at Baylor by satirizing the actions or inactions of the Baylor administration, but it is apparent from the comments of many spectators and Baylor fans that the MOB’s effort may have gone too far.”
The university has listed all the show archives on their school’s website, and have notoriously torn apart other rival programs for various controversies.
