It was homecoming for the Lake Travis Cavaliers this Friday against the Leander Lions and the Cavaliers shut out the Lions 63-0. To prep for the big night, on Wednesday the Cavaliers had a homecoming parade on campus. Each couple had their own automotive escort as if they were real royalty. In Texas homecoming is not to be taken lightly, traditions abound. One such tradition is the Texas sized mums that the boys give their dates. These mums often cover the date’s full body and jingle as if it’s christmas.
During halftime, the Leander Lions band put on a jaw dropping performance, while the other half had the “Real Election.” The homecoming election. Leaving the Cavalier Band to perform after the game.. Earlier in the day Gordon Butler, principal of Lake Travis, tweeted to the student body mockingly, “…you are acting like adults, only 497 of you have voted..” Resulting in Amelia Massey and defensive back Austin Hiller winning homecoming King and Queen of Lake Travis.

Going into the game, the Cavs were 3-0 in district play while the Lions were 1-2. Sack after sack, continually pressuring the Leander quarterback, the Cavs were particularly strong on defense tonight keeping the Lions from crossing the 50 yard line until the last drive of the game.
Playoffs are now in sight for the Cavaliers, and preparing for Vista Ridge and Vandegrift has become top priority. Five young men racing past the home crowd holding five flags representing the five straight years of Lake Travis conquering the Lone Star State from 2007-2011. Will this be the year they add another flag and another star to the “LT” on their helmets?
