Games Are Still Won In The Trenches
It’s the oldest adage in sports, and Kansas State is an old-school ball program. Snyder’s team held the rock for what seems like forever, and offensive line play was a big part of that. On the other side of the ball, their defense pressure Texas into some very bad mistakes. The Snydercats are supremely disciplined, and outside of the turnover margin, it showed.
Shane Buechele Isn’t Fully Ready Yet, But He Will Be
Buechele is still a true freshman, so he’ll have some time to get better. He’s a very good quarterback, but he still makes those kinds of head scratching Freshman mistakes. Yes, his wide receivers were atrocious today, but there are still some errors that can be fixed with time. He isn’t a world-beater yet, but he has the potential to be one of the best in the conference in a couple years.
Charlie Strong Might Not Get A Second Chance
While it’s arguable that he deserves another year to right the ship, the way his teams have been losing doesn’t inspire much confidence. They were gifted three turnovers and couldn’t muster up more than 14 points in what should have been a blowout by Bill Snyder and the Wildcats.
This Game Shouldn’t Have Been Close
We’ve talked about it a little bit, but there’s no way this game is at a ten point margin if Kansas State doesn’t hand three turnovers to Texas. There’s not much else to say there.
Texas Simply Cannot Execute The Fundamentals
A lot of beating Kansas State is being better or at least on par in the fundamentals with them. Texas seemed to mess up their alignments, mess up their protections, not be in the right place at the right time, and screw up their coverages all day long. I can’t stress this enough: you cannot beat Bill Snyder with subpar fundamentals. He will win every time if you aren’t perfect.
