Nine teams in the 5A classification remain unblemished as the regular season begins to wind down. So which of the remaining undefeated teams have the best chance of having a perfect season and remain unbeaten all the while making a run towards a state championship title?
Cedar Park 9-0
Cedar Park has long remained the No.1 team in our power rankings and have been running the table on almost every opponent they have played. Defensively they have pitched five shutouts and could be looking at a sixth one when they take on Elgin in their season finale at home where they have three of their shutouts.
Denton Ryan 9-0
Denton Ryan has amassed an impressive season thus far especially if you look at the opponents they have taken down to remain undefeated. Lancaster, Frisco Lone Star, Wylie East and Denton have all come up short against Ryan as they prepare to hoist a UIL title. Ryan has a game left on the road against Rider who has four wins on the season.
Aledo 9-0
The perennial contender year-in and year-out have not lost a step at all this season. Having one of the most balanced offenses in the state and deep in talent, the Bearcats are looking to capture their sixth state title since 2009. Aledo will have to face a (6-3, 5-1) Boswell team if they hope to head into the playoffs with an undefeated regular season record.
Manvel 9-0
Manvel earlier in the season defeated North Shore and Pearland, two teams that are no stranger to state championship glory. Manvel is looking to capture that feeling as well with their final game against a two-win Galena Park team.
Richmond Foster 9-0
The team looking to crash the party in the 5A DI Region IV bracket is Richmond Foster. Interesting to note is the fact that this is the same playoff region where there are currently two other undefeated teams that will be playing in it also in Manvel and Port Arthur Memorial. Their last game is against a winless Lamar Consolidated so the undefeated regular season looks to be a strong possibility. Foster will be hoping to be able to meet another undefeated team in their region and thwart their dream season in pursuit of their own.
College Station 10-0
College Station capped off their season with a one-point victory over Temple. Now with their focus directed at the playoffs will they be able to contend with some of the other playoff bound teams remains the question.
Texas High 9-0
A two-win Pine Tree team is the last order of business Texas High has to take care of before they begin their playoff run. This team knows how to score as they have scored 34 or more points seven times this season. Texas High hopes their ability to score often can propel them towards the coveted state champion title
Richland 9-0
Richland arguably has the toughest opponent to face in their season finale in Colleyville Heritage. Heritage always proves to be a stout team, but Richland is looking to defeat them to be the outright district champion. Heritage has one district loss that came against Grapevine in a 49-34 game who Richland beat 38-35.
Port Arthur Memorial 8-0
Memorial has a tough matchup as well with a date against a (7-2, 4-1) Vidor team. Memorial has hit the 40-point mark or higher four times this season, but Vidor has that mark seven times this season. Memorial defensively has only allowed opposing offenses to score an average of 12 points on them and if the defense continues to play well like they have all season then they have a strong chance of defeating Vidor.
So which of these teams do you feel will be able to achieve the feat of perfection in your opinion?
