Allen vs. Euless Trinity

This one is at the top of everyone’s list. Looking at the team’s schedules so far gives this one to the Eagles in an easy win, but this is still a very talented Trinity team that’s deadly when they don’t turn the ball over. A lot of experts are pegging this one to be closer than anyone thinks. I am too. We’ll get to see Allen square off against a pretty good team in the first round, one they should technically beat handily. How they react will say a lot about their season.

Converse Judson vs. San Antonio O’Connor

We know O’Connor can score points. What we don’t know is how they’ll react when going up against a storied program like Judson. Program prestige factors into wins these days, and Judson is one of the premiere programs in Texas. Outside of just having been good in the past, Judson is good currently. They’ll need QB Julon Williams fully healthy for this one, O’Connor is not a pushover.

Plano East vs. Lewisville Hebron

Both of these teams had chances to unseat the powers that be in their respective districts and just couldn’t pull it off. Plano East nearly toppled Allen in the regular season, losing 38-31, and Hebron took a bad loss to Flower Mound Marcus before taking a loss to Southlake Carroll, 52-34. We’ll find out a lot about two teams that are incredibly talented but just can’t seem to put it all together at one time.

Franklin vs. Teague

One top ranked team is going down in 3A. Sometimes, that’s just the way the playoffs go. You lose in the first round of the playoffs, and everyone views it as a disappointment. Then, you tell them you lost to the Teague Lions or the Franklin Lions, and all of a sudden everyone understands. This has the makings of a classic first-round matchup, and even if you’re not interested in 3A football you should follow it.

Lubbock Cooper vs. Canyon

Alright, we’ve seen how much Abilene Cooper has improved. Now we get to see if the rest of 4-5A can impress in their playoff matchups. Depending on how well the Lubbock schools fare, district 4-5A could have a claim to being the strongest districts in the region and one of the strongest districts in the state.
