A star running back and linebacker are two of 16 nominees for the U.S. Army Player of the Year, given to the nation’s most outstanding senior high school football player. They are Eno Benjamin of Wylie East and Anthony Hines of Plano East.
Benjamin has had a stellar senior year for Wylie East. The running back has nearly 1,800 yards and 19 touchdowns, making him a focal point for the Raiders offense. He had a huge game last week in the bi-district round against Marshall, rushing for 354 yards and 5 touchdowns in the win. He recently de-committed from Iowa and has publicly said that he will make his decision at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl.
Anthony Hines is a stud linebacker who had a big year for Plano East. The middle linebacker has a tenacity for making plays all over the field, averaging 22 tackles per game and nearly 4 tackles for loss per game. Like Benjamin, he too is uncommitted but Texas A&M, Oklahoma, and Texas are all schools near the top of his list. His most recent visit took him to Columbus, where he saw the Buckeyes trounce Nebraska 62-3.
The list of 16 will be trimmed down to six and the winner will be announced January 6 in San Antonio, before the U.S. Army All-American Bowl.
