For many years, the Austin-area teams have been dominated by an elite class of teams, one that Dripping Springs is historically not a part of. In class 5A, Cedar Park was easily the favorite out of the Austin area to make it deep into the playoffs.
The Timberwolves met an untimely end at the hands of the Manvel Mavericks, so partly by virtue of having a slightly easier bracket than their counterparts and partly by virtue of actually being very, very good, Dripping Springs is here, further than any other Austin area 5A D1 team.
Quarterback Reese Johnson has been one of the driving forces for a team that’s had some close calls over the past few weeks. They edged out an Angleton team that not many took them to beat, and they walloped a Mission Veterans team that many expected to play them extremely well. They’re not at “Team Of Destiny” levels of miracles yet, but a win here over a talented Richmond Foster team could put them in that category.
When we say talented when talking about Richmond Foster, we mean extremely talented. Wide Receiver CeeDee Lamb is a top wide receiver in Texas, quarterback Alex Ramart has been getting some buzz on the recruiting trail as of late, and Rice commit Garrett Grammer is an underrated player at his middle linebacker position.
Foster is coming into this game undefeated, and is averaging 60 points in the playoffs so far. They hold several impressive wins, including a 35-14 win over Angleton in the regular season and a 55-0 blanking of Eagle Pass Winn last week. Foster isn’t one to go down without a fight, and this game won’t be an easy win for either side.
