It appears now that we can officially say that the 2016 season is over like the season for the Texas Longhorns.
According to a report from CBS Sports, Texas would not accept a bowl invitation if it receives one. The Longhorns were in the running to make a bowl at 5-7 because of their APR scores, which fills up the other bowl slots if there aren’t enough bowl eligible teams.
Texas entered this week tied with Mississippi State for the second-highest APR scores behind North Texas. However, Mississippi State would have received higher priority because they have a higher most recent single-year APR score.
Accepting a bowl invitation would have given Tom Herman an opportunity to get extra practices with his team. However, given the fact that Herman wasn’t going to retain any of Charlie Strong’s assistants, this was the decision that seems to have been made.
multiple #Bowls officials told me they have it on good authority that #Longhorns will not accept a bid, even if things break their way sat.

The Longhorns will focus on 2017 as Tom Herman puts together his staff and his team in Austin.
