Well, the Chargers have officially moved to Los Angeles. Whether that’s a good or bad thing long-term is completely up for debate, but we’d be negligent to not point out a simple fact: their new stadium wouldn’t have been big enough to hold the crowds for every single one of the Saturday games at the UIL State Championships.
StubHub Center (Carson, CA) – 30,000 capacity
6A Division I: Lake Travis vs. The Woodlands – 30,013 in attendance
5A Division I: Highland Park vs. Temple – 35,089 in attendance
6A Division II: DeSoto vs. Cibolo Steele – 40,318 in attendance
While the 6A Division I title game certainly comes close, there’s no way that the StubHub Center would be able to hold the 5A Division I and 6A Division II championship games by a longshot.
The Chargers will only play at the StubHub Center for two years, but for those two years, Texas High School Football will claim a proxy attendance victory over a literal NFL franchise.
