Shawn Robinson Talks TCU And Championship Experience

Representatives from the UIL announced Shawn Robinson’s name, the crowd of 40,318 uproariously cheering his accomplishments. The DeSoto quarterback walked across AT&T Stadium field, accepted the award and turned to pose for the gathering of photographers, frantically shouldering past each other for the best shot of the future Horned Frogs commit. Suddenly, he frantically searched around, asking, “Where’s my o-line at?” As each member of the offensive front was located, Robinson halted the shoot until all of his teammates were present, passing the MVP plaque around the most talented o-line in Division 6A.
The humility of Robinson has made him one of our favorite athletes to cover – maturity that lead to a Division 6A title and TexasHSFootball.com Offensive Player of the Month honors back in October. We spoke to Shawn briefly in between classes at TCU, where he is an early enrollee.
“I’m doing good, Just been working out and school work!” Robinson said in regards to his first official semester of college.
After Robinson won the State Title, he was at a loss for words, understandably overwhelmed by the emotions of a perfect season and the first championship in DeSoto history. A month later, he’s still joyful over the experience and is able to describe what the experience meant.
“Man its a blessing! As a kid I’ve always dreamt of winning a state title. It took a while to finally hit me. But a month in, it’s finally hit and it feels great!
Robinson will compete against Kenny Hill (Southlake Carrol), junior Foster Sawyer (Episcopal) and three other Texas graduate quarterbacks for a starter spot this fall at TCU – an achievement that isn’t out of the realm of possibility considering the Horned Frogs’ 6-7 record last season.
“(The coaching staff) taught me that most a lot of this game is mental.” said Robinson, describing his experiences in training camp the first week. “If you can control your thoughts while working out, you can do anything.”
“The mind is powerful.”
Despite fronting three different high school programs to winning records including the aforementioned state title, Robinson isn’t allowing any of his accolades go to his head – starting his Horned Frogs stay on a blank statistical page.
“It’s back to work. New chapter. Can’t get complacent.”
