In an age of recruiting where the rich get richer and the poorer seem to languish, there’s been at least one “sign of the times” story in NFL Combine news: the UTEP Miners have more NFL Combine invites than both Texas and Texas Tech.

Texas A&M also had a staggering number of invites, half as many as the entire Big XII Conference.
While it may say something about the recruiting of each team four years ago, it doesn’t say as much about the future of each team. When you look at the amount of snaps true freshmen played in 2016, Texas Tech and Texas both rank in the top 5, with Texas Tech at #1.

Obviously, that’s an obscene amount, and a much bigger “sign of the times” than any other sign. Were Texas and Texas Tech fairly bad this year, struggling in almost all of their games? Absolutely. Are they doomed forever? Definitely not.
