District Most Valuable Player. All-State Selection. State Champion. There is nothing that Carthage running back Keaontay Ingram has not accomplished in his stupendous high school career. Now, on the cusp of his senior season, he can add highly touted recruit to his list.
With 20 offers from many of the nation’s top programs, this Carthage Bulldog has all but solidified that he will be playing his trade for a legitimate FBS power. Oklahoma, Oregon, Ole Miss, Arkansas, Notre Dame and Michigan are among the contenders for Ingram’s commitment, but many have the rising senior heading to join the new regime at Texas. With Tom Herman knowing the factory that Texas has produced at the running back position, from the likes of Ricky Williams, Cedric Benson, and most recently D’Onta Foreman, Ingram can join that list and make a strong case to play on Sundays after his college career has finished.
From watching the tape, this versatile runner has an unorthodox 5-11 frame; but by the way he runs you would think he was a foot shorter. With great vision and patience between the tackle, it gives many schools hope that he can make an immediate impact as an every-down back. The Bulldogs star backs up his hype with an astounding 2,225 yards to his name this past season, adding 31 touchdowns in the process as well. Coaches will also love that he has championship pedigree, knowing that he knows what it takes to deliver in the big moments as he did in the 4A State Championship this past December.
It would be an amazing feat to top the numbers Ingram accumulated last season, but anywhere near the production that he had, and the amount of offers he’s received could enhance significantly. Although Texas is high on the list, Texas A&M along with TCU are highlighted as making late pushes for Ingram. It will be interesting to see if there is a late change with any of the school’s that this young talent has received offers from. Whatever the case may be, Keaontay Ingram is on his way to a program that will benefit from not only a championship mentality, but a championship runner as well.
