Mayfield effectively apologized to everyone ranging from his coaches to the Lake Travis community for an arrest that included allegations of fleeing, resisting and public intoxication.
According to the Fayetteville Police Department, Mayfield allegedly tried to break up an altercation. When cops asked him for a statement, he began barking profanities and ran away. An officer tackled the Oklahoma standout to the ground and attempted to arrest him, but Mayfield refused to put his hands behind his back.
Mayfield was a Heisman candidate last year and a heavy preseason favorite for the 2017 season. Oklahoma has only lost four times in the last two years under the quarterback.
