Bremond is on a run that very few Texas teams have ever reached. The Tigers have not only won three straight state titles in Class 2A, but are also on a 47 game winning streak that dates all the way back to 2013. Head coach Jeff Kasowski has been the man in charge during this historic run and he credits not going away from the team’s goal every time they step out on the field.

“I don’t think we put any extra pressure on ourselves to win big like that,” he said, “We’ve always approached it as winning the next game and as they come up, we just prepare one game at a time and focus on that.”

This past season also marked the end of an era for one of the biggest high school star in the state in quarterback Roshauud Paul. Paul was a three-year starter for the Tigers and left his mark on a program that has dominated the Class 2A ranks the last three years. He’s now in College Station as a Texas A&M early enrollee.

“You can put him in any type of offense and he’s going to excel because of the skill set he has,” Kasowski said, “When you spread it out like we do, that played right into his hands and really helped us.”

Paul was also a part of a strong senior class that helped the Tigers get to the top of Class 2A. In four years, the Tigers have put up an astounding 59-1 overall record and leave as one of the winningest classes in program history.

“Our senior class had a handful of kids that were very, very talented,” They get a lot of the credit, but they had good classes around them each year we won a state championship. They were very easy to coach and took coaching well. It was a special group.”

As the Tigers look ahead to 2017, Kasowski said that they’ll have some experience coming back with seven starters on each side of the ball. One of those starters will be switching position as Michael Pruitt will make the move to quarterback next season. He saw time at receiver and middle linebacker in 2016.

With a new starting quarterback, there might be some adjustment without Paul under center but the emphasis will be on what Kasowski calls “the cornerstone” of his program: his defense.

“We’re going to base our team around our defense like we always do,” Kasowski said, “That’ll be true early especially with getting Michael some game experience at quarterback and I think our defense will be key in helping us.”

Kasowski also said that there would be a lot of new faces on this Tiger team next season, but he feels that they’re ready for the challenge thanks to the foundation firmly put in place by older teammates.

“We have a lot of kids coming back that have big game experience,” Kasowski, “The four starters we lose were big-time players but the kids work hard and everybody’s excited. We’re looking forward to having another great year.”
