There have been nothing but positive projections for the stock of defensive lineman Solomon Thomas in the upcoming NFL Draft. Most pundits list the Coppell graduate as a Top-10 pick, citing his build and versatility at all positions on the defensive line as indelible qualities that franchises require. In fact, a quick Google search will result in analysis for every team wanting his services — hopeful beat writers that see the potential for the talented athlete landing in their city.

“I can rush anywhere, I can play anywhere, I play every down,” Thomas said. “I’m great stopping the run, I’m a great pass rusher. I’m very versatile.”

It’s a combination of relentlessness and toughness that put a fear of God in opposing linemen during his career at Stanford and Coppell. His versatility was put on full display at the Cardinal’s pro day last Thursday afternoon, attracting the attention of coaches, coordinators and scouts from teams owning high draft picks.

“I’m not labeled to a 4-crease and I’m not labeled to a 3-4 team. I can play in any system team and I can play on any position on the d-line.”

Thomas was known as an edge-rushing specialist in college and looks to maintain that athleticism and skill set in the pros. In two years at Stanford, he totaled 8.5 sacks, 14 tackles for loss and two fumble recoveries. During Stanford’s postseason finale in the Sun Bowl against North Carolina, Thomas bowed for the curtain call of his collegiate career, receiving a standing ovation to the tune of seven tackles and a sack in the bowl game.

Despite success in Division I competition, Thomas hasn’t forgotten his roots in Texas HS Football.

“At Coppell, my coaches really taught me toughness, taught me how to love the game and how special the game of football was. How pure it is… because in high school that’s as pure as it can be.”
