After three seasons in Florida, the Miami Beach Bowl is heading to the Lone Star State. According to a report from ESPN, the bowl game has been sold by the American Athletic Conference to ESPN and will move the game to Frisco starting next season. The game had been owned by the conference since it first started in 2014.

The game would be moved from Marlins Park in Miami to Toyota Stadium, a 20,500-seat stadium that is currently the home of FC Dallas of the MLS and host for the FCS championship game. According to a report from the Dallas Morning News, the expectation is that Frisco would host the bowl game for at least the next three seasons.

“The transfer makes sense on many levels,” AAC commisioner Mike Aresco said in a statement to ESPN. “We are excited to enhance our overall relationship with ESPN and to continue our affiliation with the bowl.”

The bowl game will still continue to pit a team from the AAC against a team from the Sun Belt in 2017 and 2019 and the MAC in 2018.

With the move, the Dallas Fort-Worth area will now host four different bowl games during the postseason, joining the Cotton Bowl in Arlington, the Armed Forces Bowl in Fort Worth and the Heart of Dallas Bowl played at the Cotton Bowl.

In a statement to the AP, FC Dallas president Dan Hunt says the organization is “excited about the opportunity to have Toyota Stadium serve as the home for a bowl game.” He did not specifically say which one.

In the final game of the Miami Beach Bowl, the Tulsa Golden Hurricane used big days from quarterback Dane Evans (Sanger) and receiver Keevan Lucas (Abilene) to blow out the Central Michigan Chippewas 55-10.

There is no word yet on what the new name of the bowl game or when it would be played.
