Off the heels of a state title game appearance, The Boling Bulldogs are on the market for a new head football coach. Per Matt Stepp and the Fort Bend Herald, Boling head coach Stephen Dorr is leaving the school to take over as the offensive coordinator at Richmond George Ranch.

Dorr becomes the third offensive coordinator in as many seasons under head coach Ricky Tullos at George Ranch. The last two coordinators, Brian Ricci and Jens Anderson, have each been hired as head coaches at Harlingen South and Elgin respectively during the offseason. After winning a 5A state championship in 2015, the Longhorns jumped to 6A and had some growing pains. George Ranch finished 2016 with a 6-5 record and lost to Friendswood in the bi-district round of the 6A Division II playoffs.

Dorr does have previous experience as an offensive coordinator himself. He ran the offense at Angleton, where he spent four seasons prior to becoming Boling’s head coach in January 2015.

Dorr leaves Boling after posting an impressive 25-5 record in two seasons as head coach, including the aforementioned appearance in the Class 3A Division II state championship game last year. It was the Bulldogs’ first appearance in a title game since 1972.

Whoever takes over as the Boling head coach will have highly regarded 2018 prospect Vernon Jackson at quarterback to lead the offense. He’ll be the centerpiece of a Boling team looking to sustain this recent run of success.
