Houston has kept up their tradition of recruiting well under Major Applewhite. Their latest pickup is Spencer Wells, a tight end out of Pearland Dawson.

The 6’4, 220 lbs prospect is Houston’s third commit for the class of 2018. In 2016, Wells helped Dawson to an 8-3 record that included a huge victory over rival Pearland.
The Houston Cougars had playoff hopes at the beginning of 2016. A dominating victory over the Oklahoma Sooners in the first game of the season gave those dreams reality, but it eventually all came down when the Cougars lost to Navy, when sent them into a spiral. Houston would finish 9-4 with a loss in their bowl game, and Tom Herman would leave for Texas.
Major Applewhite looks to lead the Cougars to greater heights in 2017. Houston will open the 2017 season on the road against UTSA.
