Texas A&M missed on key target Joshua Moore on Sunday, but the recruiting barbecue event proved fruitful in the form of a commitment from Fort Bend Marshall offensive guard Barton Clement, according to multiple reports.
A four-star prospect, Clement had a top three that also included Texas and Florida, and the Gators were emerging as a favorite in his recruitment as of late. The allure of playing for coaches he loves close to home and the educational opportunities at Texas A&M were too much for Clement to pass up, though.
Clement expanded on his decision to commit to Texas A&M with 247Sports’ Taylor Hamm.
“I chose them because I’ve been doing my research and I want to be a chemical engineer and they have one of the best schools for that. I really love the coaches, especially Coach (Jim) Turner. He’s got the knowledge and experience to prepare me for the next level. He knows what I need to do and what I have to do to be successful.”
An AP 5A first-team all-state selection, Clement now becomes commit No. 12 for the Aggies, which catapults Texas A&M’s 2018 class to No. 9 nationally. Texas A&M now holds pledges from three high-level offensive line targets with Luke Matthews and Colten Blanton in the mix, as well.
The 6’2, 301-pound Clement ranks as the nation’s No. 251 player, No. 9 offensive guard and the No. 30 player in Texas, per 247Sports Composite.
