Former Baltimore Ravens linebacker Zach Orr, in similar fashion to his career, will now look to see an abrupt end to his retirement after he received an encouraging diagnoses that has him eyeing a return to the football field.
Orr initially retired back in January due to a congenital spine condition but he made it clear that if the possibility of him playing again ever presented itself, he would take full advantage of it.
An unformed vertebrae in his spine left medical evaluators to advise his retirement at the ripe age of 24 after producing a season that saw him record 132 tackles, five passes defensed, three interceptions, two fumble recoveries and a forced fumble. Orr was later named to the second-team All-Pro team and had fans marveling at the future of the linebacking corps with Orr and C.J. Mosley leading the way.
With Orr receiving news from other doctors that his spinal condition has a reduced risk of any further devastating injury possibilities, his return to the field looks imminent. He would be considered an unrestricted free agent if he ends up playing again. Orr never filed any retirement papers and the Ravens never placed him on the reserve/retired list due to the expectations of him never playing again.
The former DeSoto and UNT standout has already garnered interest from other teams as he is expected to visit with the Detroit Lions on Thursday and has seen eight teams reach out to him per ESPN reports.
