Just six months after announcing his transfer to Nevada-based powerhouse Bishop Gorman, former Allen running back Kirby Bennett has been dismissed from the program for an unspecified reason, according to Nevadapreps.com.
“I’ll keep it in-house, but he kicked himself off the team basically,” Bishop Gorman head coach Kenny Sanchez said of Bennett.
A highly-touted transfer from Texas powerhouse Allen, which went 14-1 last season, Bennett was expected to play a fairly significant role in the Gaels’ offense in 2017 although Sanchez told Nevadapreps.com that junior Amor Cianelli was listed as the starter. Prior to transferring to Bishop Gorman, Bennett split carries with Arizona State commit Brock Sturges.
It’s unclear whether or not Bennett will return to Allen for his senior season if his dismissal from Bishop Gorman doesn’t rule him ineligible, but Allen head coach Terry Gambill told the Dallas News that he hasn’t been contacted by anyone from Bennett’s family about a possible return at this point.
Pegged as a three-star prospect, Bennett rushed for 808 yards and six touchdowns in 2016. Bennett currently holds 46 offers from around the nation.
He’s ranked as the nation’s No. 749 player, No. 39 running back and the No. 6 player in Nevada, per 247Sports Composite.
