Former Judson DE, Texas A&M Signee Alton Robinson Commits To New Mexico State

Alton Robinson is getting another shot at Division I football.

According to a report from the Las Cruces Sun-Times, the former Converse Judson star defensive end and Texas A&M signee has committed to New Mexico State.

A former three-star member of Texas A&M’s 2016 class, the Aggies released Robinson from his letter of intent after he was arrested and charged with felony burglary for allegedly stealing his ex-girlfriend’s phone just weeks after National Signing Day. Consequently, Robinson never suited up for the Aggies in College Station, but will do just that for the Aggies of New Mexico State as soon as next season.

“We presented everything to the administration when we first started recruiting him,” New Mexico State head coach Doug Martin told the Lae Cruces Sun-Times. “He made a mistake and paid for it and was ready to move on.”

“I think the kid was deserving of another chance. His high school coaches and the junior college coaches that we talked to felt like the kid was very deserving. It helped already knowing his junior college coaches and then I felt more comfortable after talking to his family.”

Robinson’s charges have since been reduced to a misdemeanor and his collegiate career began last season among the JUCO ranks with Northeastern Oklahoma A&M.

As expected, considering a Power 5 prospect projected to play early at Texas A&M was suddenly competing at a much lower level, Robinson dominated off the edge for the Golden Norsemen, racking up 67 tackles, 17 tackles for loss and an absurd 14 sacks as a freshman.

It didn’t come to fruition at Texas A&M, but after a standout JUCO season, Robinson will finally be able to suit up as an Aggie in 2017; this time with New Mexico State.
