The Katy Tigers have a well-known for having one of the most stout defenses in Texas. Late Monday night, one of those key pieces up front made his college decision. Katy defensive end Michael Matus announced via Twitter his commitment to Arizona State.

The three-star defensive lineman (247 Sports) chose the Sun Devils over other offers from six other schools including Louisiana Monroe, North Texas and Texas State among others.

The senior has had quite a run during the last two seasons for the Tigers. After being named the defensive MVP of the Class 6A Division II state championship game as a sophomore, Matus followed it up with a first-team all-district selection last year as a junior.

Matus becomes the seventh commit in the Class of 2018 for the Sun Devils and the third Texan commit, joining Allen running back Brock Sturges and former Atascocita cornerback and junior college commit in Dominique Harrison. As a former Texas high school football coach, Todd Graham has made it a point to recruit talent from the Lone Star State to Tempe and now adds yet another commit up front on defense.

As for his high school season, Matus will be one of the players to watch for Katy as they try to make a run back to the state championship game. The Tigers open their season at home on September 1 against Austin Westlake.
