Per head coach David Beaty, Kansas tight end Maciah Long was dismissed from the team for a violation of team rules.  The move was announced in a release on Monday.

Long was the starting quarterback for Galena Park North Shore for the 2015 Class 6A Division I state champion Mustangs. During that title run, the dual-threat signal caller threw for 1,785 yards and 16 touchdowns while rushing for nearly 1,000 yards and 20 touchdowns on top of that. He was named the offensive MVP of the state title game win over Austin Westlake.

In his career in Lawrence, Long saw time at both running back and linebacker for the Jayhawks last season, appearing in 10 games last season. He had moved over to defensive end during the spring and was expected to compete for playing time in 2017.

He becomes the second departure from the Jayhawk program in recent weeks. Former Cedar Hill star receiver LaQuvionte Gonzalez was dismissed from the team back on July 31.

Kansas opens their season on September 2 against Southeast Missouri State.
