WHITEHOUSE, Texas — To many, generosity is an accepted medium. Especially when it comes from unexpected sources. Despite the allure of potential National Football League superstardom, Patrick Mahomes hasn’t forgotten where he came from.
The former Whitehouse High School and current Kansas City Chief quarterback donated cleats to his former high school Friday — not only for the varsity but the junior varsity and freshman teams as well — per a franchise press release.
“I just remember when I got to 7th and 8th grade, they kind of had team shoes,” Mahomes said. “I remember some people were getting expensive shoes and some people were just getting the regular school shoes, but a team shoe shows one team.”

Mahomes has maintained a strong relationship with Adam Cook, his former high school coach. Together, they placed the order for the cleats and made sure all sizes were accounted for — even up to size 17 for one freshman player.
Cook was contacted by the mother of the freshman player early in the summer, explaining the difficulties she was having finding a pair of size 17 cleats. Mahomes and the coach, touched by her predicament, swooped to the rescue.
“Now he has a pair,” Cook said. “I added that number to the order because Patrick wanted that boy to have a pair of maroon and white shoes.”
With more than 100 student-athletes in the program and prices for Adidas cleats ranging from $77 to $119, Mahomes’ donation was upwards of $11,500 with the lowest possible total falling at $7,700. Per NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport sources, the former Texas Tech star signed a four-year, fifth-year option rookie contract worth $16.4 million fully guaranteed along with a $10.1 million signing bonus July 20.
The donation is an estimation based on prices for the cheapest and most expensive Adidas football cleats in that model with Whitehouse High School’s colors.
Cook added Mahomes is a prideful individual with a big heart and a humble personality, and that, for him, the gift to his former school was only a reflection of the man he is.
“Wherever I go I have a ton of pride in, high school, college, here now in Kansas City,” Mahomes said. “I always have a ton of pride of the people around me, the people that come out and support us each week and I always want to give back and do whatever I can to help out for places I’ve been and the people who have supported me all the way through.”
