GREEN BAY — Martellus Bennett, Alief Taylor (Houston) alum, has been cut by the Green Bay Packers, according to reports.
Bennett is now in his tenth year in the NFL after leaving Texas A&M. He has spent time with Dallas, Chicago, the New York Giants, New England and Green Bay. The tight end signed with the Packers this offseason a three-year deal. He has played in seven games and has 233 yards with 24 catches.
This comes hours after the team said Bennett would not play this weekend due to a shoulder injury. Green Bay would not confirm whether or not he would play a game again this season.
A few weeks ago, Bennett announced on Instagram he would not be playing after this season. More than half the season is over so there is a chance he does not play in the league again.
If he sticks to it, Bennett finishes with 4,520 yards and 30 touchdowns.
