Klein Collins Opens Playoff Run In Bi-District Showdown With Spring Dekaney

The Klein Collins Tigers take on the Dekaney Wildcats in a tough first round rematch at Memorial Stadium in Klein. Last year, Klein Collins rolled over the Wildcats 35-0 but this year, the Wildcats are looking to avenge that defeat.

Klein Collins is undefeated, including tough wins against Lamar, Atascocita and Klein Oak. Dekaney is 6-3 coming from a tough district with losses to Nimitz, Westfield and Spring. Both teams share a mutual win in Klein Oak, the Tigers won 21-10, while the Wildcats beat them 10-9.

Klein Collins looks to take the next step and make it to AT&T Stadium after last year’s state semifinal run. Much like last year, they are led by a stifling defense. This year, it’s headed by Houston linebacker commit Donavon Mutin and a star-studded secondary.

On the other side, the offense runs through Isaiah Spiller, quite literally. Spiller, the 2019 four-star running back has had an outstanding junior campaign, partially because of his offensive line. Led by Houston commit Kam Lewis, the boys up front keep quarterback Carter Rhyne and Spiller clean.

Dekaney has had battled through adversity this season. They managed to finish with a winning record, but they’ve had their fair share of tough games. Early in the season, they barely squeaked by Klein Oak, then dropped their district opener to Nimitz and followed it up with losses to district champ and runner up, Westfield and Spring, respectively.

However, they enter the playoffs on a high note following a 38-0 win against MacArthur. Four-star tight end Malcolm Epps finished with 106 yards and two touchdowns receiving. The 6’6 monster has had an incredible season and creates mismatches on defense with his deceptive 4.53 speed.

With running back Donald Smith returning from injury and quarterback Joseph Cephus playing his best football as of late, this Wildcats team will look to provide a tougher matchup than last year for Klein Collins.
