DALLAS — The Philadelphia Eagles showed why its the best team in the league Sunday night at At&T Stadium.
The Eagles even gave Dallas a half of football to let the Cowboys try to build a lead. Dallas, without its star back Ezekiel Elliott, looked flat for that first half, though. But after a 15-play, seven-plus minute drive, the Cowboys had to settle for its third field goal of the night. It gave Dallas a 9-7 lead going into halftime, but that wouldn’t last long.
Awaken The Beast
It happened so quick, most probably missed it. Philadelphia came out gunning for a score. The Eagles used eight plays and 75 yards to punch in an 11-yard run from back Corey Clement (50 yards, one touchdown).
The explosive offense led by second-year quarterback Carson Wentz would then score on its next two drives and before anyone knew it, it was a 29-9 lead.
Offense Did It’s Job, Defense Did Better
Dallas had no answers on defense. The Eagles offense scored four times Sunday night and looked as if it knew what the Cowboys were calling. But th real credit needs to go to the Philadelphia defense.
In the last five Dallas drives, the Eagles forced three punts, an interception and a fumble that was recovered for a touchdown. The pass rushers were in Dak Prescotts face all night as he continued to struggle.
What’s Going On?
Dallas has some issues. In its last two games, it’s had one touchdown. The gaping hole Zeke left behind is very noticeable. Prescott has had plenty of missed passes and threw three interceptions against Philadelphia. He was able to hit Dez Bryant for eight catches for 63 yards but it wasn’t pretty. Dallas was held scoreless in the second half and after a while, it’s defense became too tired to hold on.
NFC East
Although it’s not official, it probably will be soon. Philadelphia has played four of its divisional games and won each one. Dallas still has three left and stands at 2-1, but would need Philadelphia to lose to New York on December 17. As unlikely as that is, if Dallas rebounds and beats Philadelphia in week 17, the East can be won.
Nevertheless, the Eagles have proven to be the best team in the NFL each week. At 9-1, they’ve been much more impressive with it’s MVP-caliber quarterback. Dallas has it’s own issues at 5-5 and has little time to fix them. Its next game brings the Los Angeles Chargers to Arlington for Thanksgiving, in four days.
