Baker Mayfield Reprimanded For Kansas Game Antics

During last weeks game, Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield had some questionable decision making. Not as the quarterback, but as someone who gets a lot of attention.

ESPN video caught Mayfield giving the Kansas fans an obscene gesture. Mayfield apologized after the game in his press conference. Mayfield said he was caught up in the scrappy game, one in which Jayhawk players hit him late and refused to shake hands pregame.

His coach, Lincoln Riley, said he was disappointed in Mayfield after the game. Today, at his weekly press conference, he announced there would be a punishment for the gesture.

Mayfield will not start against West Virginia this weekend, his last game in Norman as a Sooner. The last time Oklahoma had a different quarterback was in the 2014 Russel Athletic Bowl, Trevor Knight was taking snaps.

Kyler Murray will start in his place, but Mayfield is still going to play. He was also stripped of his captain status for this game. It will unlikely hurt his Heisman hopes, but does show that Riley is going to keep control of his team.

Riley said Mayfield was disappointed but handled the news “like a man.”Riley got emotional talking about Mayfield afterward.
