Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield was named one of three finalists for the Heisman Trophy on Monday night, joining Stanford running back Bryce Love and Louisville quarterback and defending Heisman Trophy winner Lamar Jackson.

The former Lake Travis star has had a stellar season for the Sooners, throwing for 4,340 yards and 41 touchdowns in his senior season in Norman. He’s also led Oklahoma to a 12-1 record, a Big 12 championship and the No. 2 seed in the College Football Playoff.

From his game early in the season at Ohio State to his performance in the Big 12 Championship, Mayfield has been one of the frontrunners for the award.

If Mayfield wins, he would become the ninth Sooner to win the Heisman and the first former Texas high school player to win the award since former Texas A&M Johnny Manziel (Kerrville Tivy), who won back in 2012.

The Heisman Trophy will be awarded on Saturday night in New York.
