IRVING — The Conference USA has announced its defensive player of the year and it’s no other than UTSA senior Marcus Davenport.
Davenport, earned first-team all-conference accolades this week had 55 tackles and a school-record 17.5 tackles for loss and 8.5 sacks. Davenport was on of few on the Chuck Bednarik Award and Wuerffel Trophy watch lists and a Senior CLASS Award candidate.
Eight times this year, Davenport accounted for a tackle for loss and had 6.5 sacks and three forced fumbles in conference play.
The senior started all 11 contests and helped the defense lead the conference in five statistical categories. The 6-7 defensive end from Stevens High School ranks 10th in the FBS in tackles for loss per game (1.5) and 13th nationally in sacks per (0.77).
After four years, Davenport will finish his UTSA career as the programs all-time leader in tackles for loss, sacks and quarterback hurries.
He also looks to become one of the few Roadrunners in the NFL come draft day.
