Standing at 5-3, Mart running back and do-everything athlete Shatydrick Bailey is one of the smallest players on the field. But on Wednesday night at AT&T Stadium, he stood tall for his Panther teammates.
The junior rushed for 82 yards and two touchdowns, caught a touchdown pass off a fake field goal and recorded three tackles with a sack to help Mart win their sixth state title in program history with a 34-21 win over Refugio, the defending Class 2A Division 1 state championship.
With his performance, Bailey takes home the TexasHSFootball MVP Award presented by VCRNow.

After Refugio jumped out to an early 14-0 lead, it was Bailey who helped turn the momentum back in Mart’s favor. Bailey took one of the opening plays of the second quarter and ran up the middle for a 44-yard touchdown to put the Panthers on the board.
On fourth and goal from the one, Bailey would catch a pass from quarterback Jace Terry on a fake field goal and would add a one-yard run to give the Panthers a lead they would not relinquish.
As the winner of the MVP award, Bailey will receive a commemorative custom MVP football, a full scholarship to the Football University Camp of their choice as well as an image collage.
