Texas A&M will hire Notre Dame defensive coordinator Mike Elko for the same position as first reported by TexAgs.com.

Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly confirmed that Elko would be heading to College Station on Thursday afternoon.

The move comes after the Aggies tried to hire LSU defensive coordinator Dave Aranda to the same position but ultimately agreed to a contract extension worth $2.5 million a year to stay in Baton Rouge.
Per ESPN’s Chris Low, Elko will receive a multiyear contract and is expected to earn approximately $2 million annually at Texas A&M.
The move also comes less than 10 days after Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly said that Elko would be back at Notre Dame for the 2018 season.
He told Irish Illustrated, “If you’re looking at the defensive coordinators that are out there today and you look at what they’re being paid, it’s ridiculous. The money is crazy and the length of contracts that are being thrown at you. You look at it that way, you’re probably going to catch somebody’s eye early on in the process, and I’m not saying that it happened or it didn’t happen, you can put two and two together.”
Prior to his lone season at Notre Dame, Elko served as defensive coordinator at both Wake Forest and Bowling Green.
