HOUSTON — The Cougars will have a new full-time starting quarterback in 2018 after former starting quarterback Kyle Allen announced through a Thursday Twitter post he will skip his senior seaosn and enter the 2018 NFL Draft.

The move was first reported by Joseph Duarte of The Houston Chronicle.

Before his arrival at Houston, Allen was recruited by Texas A&M and was one of the highest-ranked prospects of his class from Arizona. He spent two years in College Station as the starting quarterback before transferring in 2015.

Allen began the year as the starting quarterback for the Cougars, leading the team to wins over Arizona and Rice.

But after a three turnover performance against Texas Tech on Sept. 23, Allen was benched and replaced by Kyle Postma who took over as the starter.

With the departure, former Manvel High School star D’Eriq King is the only current quarterback on the roster with college experience. He will join redshirt freshman and former John Tyler Star Bryson Smith and incoming freshman Julon Williams of Converse Judson.
