The signal caller said via Twitter that he would graduate from Tennessee and play the final year of his college eligibility at another school. He would be immediately eligible to play next season.
Dormady entered the 2017 season as the starting quarterback of the Volunteers after beating out redshirt freshman Jarrett Guarantano for the job. Guarantano later took over the starting role after five games.
After changing quarterbacks in the middle of the season, Dormady elected to have season-ending shoulder surgery in October.
“I am excited as I look to the future and toward a new opportunity,” Dormady said via Twitter. “I am making great progress every day with the help of my family, my friends and doctors. I want to thank everyone for their support through rehab.”
“My goal is to work my way back to the game as a post graduate quarterback — stronger, sharper, ready to compete and to be a good teammate. That is my single focus at the moment.”
Dormady was the backup to current Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Joshua Dobbs before becoming the starter. He finished 2017 completing 55.5 percent of his passes for 925 yards with six touchdowns and six interceptions.
