NAVASOTA, Texas — Navasota ISD was slated to hire Casey Dacus as its new athletic director and high school football coach per a Tuesday afternoon report from The Eagle’s Robert Cessna.
The hire was confirmed on Twitter by the ISD later than night.

Casey, formerly Class 4A Graham High School’s offensive coordinator, is the son of area coaching legend Mike Dacus.
Mike was the head football and boys basketball coach and athletic director at Navasota during his 23-year tenure. He led Navasota’s boys basketball team to a 35-0 record and a UIL 3A state title in 1990. The elder Dascus is an assistant with Tarleton’s womens basketball team.
He also led the football team to the 1998 UIL 3A state title game.

Before taking the position in Graham ISD in 2010, Casey served as an assistant at Abilene Cooper High School. Mike Spradlin, another former Navasota ISD coach, hired him.
Abilene Cooper went 18-9 in 2008 and 2009, including 9-1 in District 4-4A. The Cougars scored 40.6 points per game behind the arm of Ryan Heslep en route to the an area round berth the year before Casey’s departure to Graham.
The younger Dascus helped Graham finish 14-1 overall and 4-0 in District 3 in 2017. He also helped 4,000-yard passer Tucker Horn and the Steers reach the UIL 4A Division II state semifinals.
The Steers eventually fell to Texarkana Pleasant Grove 45-14. Their offense also powered Graham to the semifinals three consecutive years — in 2013, 2014 and 2015 — with Casey at its helm.He replaces Patrick Goodman, who replaced state championship coach Lee Fedora.
Goodman, a secondary coach during the title runs, was 8-14 in two seasons. Fedora closed his 11-year coaching career 109-30 overall.
Casey will assume control of a football program recently moved to District 12 in the UIL’s 4A classification. The Rattlers finished 4-1 in District 10-4A — good for second behind Silsbee — last season and the bi-district round.
