NFL SCOUTING COMBINE: Former Sooners highlight list of Texas alums taking part in upcoming opening day

Former Texas high school football stars will have the most important job interview of their careers this week at the NFL Combine.

In the first of four stories, TexasHSfootball.com takes a look at these prospects leading up to the combine.

It’s no secret the offensive skills positions players are the most popular players on a football team, and there are seven former Texas high school stars hoping to grab the attention of NFL scouts and become the next popular jersey that flies off the racks.

The tight end, quarterback and wide receiver combine workouts will be televised on the NFL Network on Thursday from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Jalen Hurts, Channelview, Oklahoma, QB
After transferring from Alabama, Hurts helped the Sooners go 12-2, win yet another Big 12 championship and make a return to the College Football Playoffs. The Heisman Trophy finalist finished with a passer rating of 191.2, threw for 3,851 yards and 32 touchdowns. Hurts was one of the nation’s most coveted recruits during his days at Channelview, where he earned District 21-6A MVP honors as both a junior and senior.

Ceedee Lamb, Richmond Foster, Oklahoma, WR
Lamb was probably the most explosive player in a conference full of playmakers and offenses that lit up the scoreboard. He finished with 62 receptions for 1,327 yards and 14 touchdowns and earned Big 12 Championship Game MVP honors. He was one of OU’s only bright spots a lopsided CFP loss to eventual National Champ LSU after hauling in 119 yards on four catches. Lamb had 98 receptions for 2,032 yards and 33 touchdowns during his senior season at Foster.

Tyrie Cleveland, Houston Westfield, Florida, WR
Cleveland finished his Gator career with 1,271 yards and eight scores on 79 receptions. Before going to Gainesville, Fla., Cleveland was an Under Armor All-American at Houston Westfield.

Denzel Mims, Daingerfield, Baylor, WR
Mims helped the Bears reach the Big 12 Championship Game for the first time in school history by hauling in 66 catches for 1,020 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2019. He was an all-state wide receiver and state champion sprinter during his time at Daingerfield.

James Proche, Desoto, SMU, WR
Proche had a career season with the mustangs finishing with 1,225 yards and 15 touchdowns on 111 receptions as a senior. ESPN rated him as a 4-star prospect coming out of Desoto.

Devin Duvernay, Sachse, Texas, WR
Duvernay broke out in his senior season in Austin and was UT’s most reliable receiver in 2019. He accumulated 1,386 yards and nine touchdowns on 106 receptions and had one score on the ground to earn All Big 12 first-team honors. He was a two-time all-state and three-time all-district honoree at Sachse.

Quartney Davis, Houston Langham Creek, Texas A&M, WR
Davis helped the Aggies finish 8-5 and win the Texas Bowl against Oklahoma State. He had 48 catches for 568 yards and four touchdowns in 2019. Rivals rated Davis as a 4-star prospect coming out of high school.

Kendrick Rogers, Frankston, Texas A&M, WR
Rogers had finished with 30 catches for 351 yards and two touchdowns for A&M. He as an all-district selection as a junior.

Aaron Fuller, McKinney Lovejoy, Washington, WR
Fuller earned All-Pac 12 second team punt returner and third team wide receiver honors after helping the Huskies finish with an 8-5 mark in 2019. He finished with 159 catches and 2,051 yards in his collegiate career. The former McKinney Lovejoy star was a first team District 10-5A selection and first team Collin-County selection as a senior.

Darrell Stewart, Houston Nimitz, Michigan State, WR
Stewart had 697 yards and three touchdowns for the Spartans this past season. He was named the District 18-6A MVP as a senior at Nimitz.

Jalen Reagor, Waxahachie, TCU, WR
In his final year in Fort Worth, Reagor had 43 catches for 611 yards and five touchdowns. He was ranked as a 4-star prospect by 247Sports coming out of Waxahachie.

Steven Montez, El Paso Del Valle, Colorado, QB
Montez finished a successful career as a Buffalo with 9,492 yards and 61 touchdowns. The former Conquistador star was one of the best quarterback prospects to ever come out of the Sun City and was a second team all-state selection as a senior at EP Del Valle.

Laviska Shenault, DeSoto, Colorado, WR
Shenault had 1,900 yards and 11 touchdowns on 45 receptions during his collegiate career. He helped DeSoto win a Class 6A Division II state championship.
