Lometa 76 – Rochelle 26
Guest Article by: Mason Hines
Two weeks after the Lometa Hornets took care of business against the Buckholts Badgers by a score of 62-16, Lometa put their undefeated record on the line at a familiar venue in Rochelle, Texas. LHS came out on fire, with Junior Alonso Caso intercepting two passes in the first five plays, returning both for touchdowns, giving Lometa a quick advantage, although early special teams mishaps left the score at 12-0, and gave Rochelle their first points when they returned a kickoff for a touchdown to cut the lead in half. Although giving up more points in the first quarter (20) than they had given up in a game all year (12) Lometa never let Rochelle see a glimpse of the lead, out-scoring them 48 to 6 over the last fifteen minutes of game time. Lometa was led on the ground by the player of the game Alonso Caso, who’s three rushing scores on four attempts and two defensive scores proved to be a difference maker in this ballgame. Enrique Prado also had two rushing scores, including a sixty yard scamper on 4th down and 30. On the defensive side, Dyllen Workmon led the way with seven tackles, while seven different Lometa players recorded at least one stop. Lometa (4-0) will play an opponent to be determined soon after a cancellation by Iredell. Rochelle (2-3) will play at Gustine (2-3).
