The Conroe Grand Oaks Grizzlies came into this week 4-1 but 0-1 in District 13-6A, still looking for their first-ever win in district play.  They would get it against Conroe.

This was a battle of the oldest and youngest school in the district.  The Conroe Tigers came into this game 3-2, coming off a tough 14-38 loss to Oak Ridge.  This game was a battle that came down to the end.

Conroe got the scoring started with an opening drive field goal.  Grand Oaks then took the ball right down the field for a 12 play 70-yard scoring drive that ended with QB James Holmon taking it in from 1 yard out for the 7-3 lead.  In the second quarter, Conroe took the lead again on a 15-yard touchdown pass from Jalen Willians to Louis Williams III.  They missed the extra point and had a 9-7 lead.  The Grizzlies took the lead right back with an impressive 42-yard field goal from Grant Nickel . Grand Oaks led 10-9.  Grand Oaks had one more drive late in the second half but fumbled inside the 15-yard line. Conroe capitalized and drove 87 yards for a touchdown and a 15-10 halftime lead.

The Grizzlies were able to cut the lead to 15-13 in the third quarter, but both teams struggled to move the ball in the third with the only other score being a Conroe field goal giving them a 15-13 lead.  Conroe looked like they were driving to end the game late in the fourth quarter but a sack-fumble gave the Grizzlies the ball inside the 20-yard line.  They capitalized, thanks to a fourth-down conversion, and got a 7-yard touchdown run from Brandon High to take the 19-18 lead.

Conroe tried to drive the field to get a last-minute win, but backup Quarterback Clayton Garlock was picked off by Noah Clark, his second interception of the game, and the game was over.

FINAL SCORE:  Grand Oaks 19 – Conroe 18

The Grizzlies will look to get their second district win next week as they play The Woodlands.  The Woodlands Highlanders are 3-2 and are at the top of the district at 2-0 in district play.  Conroe, now 3-3, will look to improve to 1-1 in district play when they play at The Woodlands College Park next week.  College Park is currently 5-1 and 1-0 in district play coming off of a 24-1 win at Willis.
