Joseph’s two interceptions help Northwestern shut down Wisconsin
Redshirt freshman defensive back Brandon Joseph showed off his ball-hawking skills in Northwestern’s 17-7 home win over Wisconsin on Saturday.
Joseph finished with two interceptions and seven tackles to help the Wildcats beat a Top 10 ranked team for the first time since 2011. Northwestern (5-0, 5-0) is off to its best start since 1996 after beating Wisconsin (2-1, 2-1).
Northwestern jumps up eight spots to No. 11 in the latest Associated Press College Football Poll after the win while Wisconsin slips from No. 10 to 18.
Joseph, a former College Station star, helped give the Wildcats the lead with his second interception of the day.
After the turnover, the Wildcats took possession on their own 27 and went on a seven-play, 73-yard scoring drive that made it 14-7 Northwestern with 1 minute, 19 seconds remaining in the first half.
Joseph posted 95 tackles, 10 pass break ups and five interceptions as a senior at College Station.
The victory gives the Wildcats a 2.5 game lead over the Badgers for first place in the Big Ten West plus the head-to-head tiebreaker.
Northwestern visits Michigan State (1-3, 1-3) on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
